Plain Jane Knits Up A Storm

A few musings about my needlecraft hobbies - knitting, crocheting, quilting, & cross-stitch along with my other love, genealogy. While growing up, I used to HATE the term "Plain Jane", but when it comes to knitting & crocheting, I've realized that I really *am* a Plain Jane in that I don't use fancy yarns.

Yup, I'm Still Alive..

...though I can understand a couple emails I received asking if I had departed this veil of tears. I've just been a lazy blogger with not much to say and with rather boring projects. The one time that I arranged a number of hat & scarf sets on the living room floor, the camera batteries were stone dead which I took as a sign to just keep knitting. Anyway, here's what I've been working on..

First up is a toe up sock for the Knitting Purls KAL - you'll notice that there is only ONE sock and the KAL ends this Friday. This is what happens when weather, a touch of arthritis, & size 2 needles limit me to a couple rows at a time. The second sock will be completed, but not in the next 60 or so hours. I also have that other single posted back in February that still needs it's buddy knit, but I promise no more casting on until these pairs are complete. This one is in Bernat Sox Wooded Denim with a Feather & Fan cuff. It appears to have a purple cast against the blue of the rug, but it really is a faded denim shade.

The hat & scarf sets below will go to the Detroit shelter for Homeless Vets next fall. These have been my main projects since last we met. As mentioned, they're fairly boring, but will hopefully keep people warm next winter. This will be the third year of this project as we sent sets in 2006 & 2007. (This last year we concentrated on child size sets, but will be unable to do that again until the Consumer Safety Protection Commission & Congress come to their senses and recognize that yarn does not contain lead or phthalates.) I have another hat on the needles that should be finished tonight & will cast on the matching scarf.

I didn't take photos of them, but I'm also working on more Snuggles for a local animal shelter. I've finished eleven so far, all of them in Homespun or Baby Clouds - wonderful soft yarns that do not go through the laundry that well, but the cats aren't going to care what they look like as long as they stay soft and they do.

I'll leave you with what I often find when I try to use the computer. The chair is an oak antique that's a bit hard to sit on so I pad it with a couple extra bed pillows. As you can see, Boomer thinks that this makes a great soft spot for a nap. {g} The affinity of all three of our cats for padded surfaces is one reason that I feel good about working on the Snuggles as I hate to think of shelter cats having to sleep on a cold metal floor of a cage.
