Plain Jane Knits Up A Storm

A few musings about my needlecraft hobbies - knitting, crocheting, quilting, & cross-stitch along with my other love, genealogy. While growing up, I used to HATE the term "Plain Jane", but when it comes to knitting & crocheting, I've realized that I really *am* a Plain Jane in that I don't use fancy yarns.

Seven More Lap-robes For The Vets + An Afghan For The Hospital

I finally took photos of the lap robes I've been knitting for the Veterans' Hospital. These are all made of leftover yarn from other K4 projects. I was initally working a bag of multi-colored balls & then from the tote of blues & purples.

I cast on too many stitches for this first one so I wound up turning it into vertical stripes.

I had reds & rusts left over from the multi-colored bag. This one reminds me of a sunset.

At this point, I was putting the lap-robes one on top of another and as every cat owner (ok, I really mean "staff" as no one "owns" a cat), knows - a soft spot plus a sunbeam is irresistable to felines. At this point, I started getting "help" from Max.

And even more help!!

Here's that last one without Max.

But the cat came back.. {lol} I turned these seven in today and the Chaplin from the American Legion came by to pick up the dozen our group had ready to send. That makes 135 lap robes we've sent to the Vets so far this year.

This last one is for Beaumont Hospital - they provide the yarn & we make afghans for them. There's a whole tote full of them now so I asked the coordinator at the Senior Center to let the gentleman who brought the yarn know that they're ready for pick-up. This is the last one that I crocheted. It's faster, but it's been making the arthritis in my left thumb hurt after a few rows. By switching to knitting, I've been able to keep working - garter stitch on size 13 needles goes fairly quickly when I can work on it for a couple hours at a stretch.
